5 Obituary

The Swea City Herald, April 1957

Death came unexpectedly at 11:15 a.m. Saturday to Leslie Anderson, 36, following a stroke earlier that morning. He died in an Estherville hospital where he had been taken by ambulance.

He was born Nov. 4, 1920 in Mitchell, S.D., the only child of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Anderson. His mother died in 1932. The family moved to Swea City in 1938, where Leslie graduated from high school in 1939.

He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. In April 1947 he was married to Jean Erickson, Swea City, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Susan, 6; his father and step-mother, Mr and Mrs. John E. Anderson, Swea City, and a step-brother, Dr. G. O. Anderson, Jackson.

Following his military service, Anderson had been employed as a mechanic at Anderson Machine Shop. Mrs. Anderson is a member of the faculty of the Swea City school.

The sudden death has shocked the entire community.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today from Immanuel Lutheran church with the Rev. Leroy Tillman, pastor, officiating. Curtis Funeral Home was in charge.

Burial was in Harrison township cemetery with the American Legion paying graveside military honors.

50 At the time of her 1753 marriage she was a maid (pigan) at the Gärdserum rectory (Prästegården). Her husband was captured by the Prussians in 1759, and deleted from the military rolls in 1764. Military widows were a concern, because the rusthållare was required to support them. Many military widows married their husband's successor in the soldier's coft, but she did not. According to Barbro Behrendtz Ingrid continued to live Gärdserum. "She was noted in the tax rolls untill 1780. After 1780 I have not found her" (Personal communication, Apr. 15, 2014). Johansdotter, Cajsa Ingrid (I622)
