• Notes

  She came to America in 1868, the year after her father. In 1880 she and her husband were living next door to her father. The 1900 census shows her and her husband at Center Township in La Porte County, Indiana: Andrew Nelson (40), and wife Josephine (45). He was a farmer. She was the mother of one child, who was then living. She appears on the 1910 census as a widow, Josephine Johnson (56). Her father Nels Fyrsten (88), was living with her. It is not clear whether the census is wrong about her name, or whether she re-married after Andrew Nelson died. She had one child living. The child must have died before she did. Josephine Nelson left the bulk of her estate to charity, with small bequests to her niece Josephine Swanstrom, and her nephew Karl Fyrsten, of Fyrstensbruk.
